Barging is now considered an essential component of modern B2B logistics operations. It represents a cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional modes of transport. As an asset-rich company, the Prism Logistics team designs barging solutions to meet diverse logistics needs, thus offering flexibility, reliability, and specialized services that add an edge to our clients' logistics needs. Deploying our own 250-class, 300-class, and 330-class barges to transport ODCs along the inland waterway has special advantages, especially for companies like ours that need to transport heavy, bulk, or oversized cargo. Here's how Prism Logistics does all this.

Our Approach to Barging Solutions

Prism Logistics considers barging to be a key component of its multimodal logistics solutions. By integrating barging with SPMTs, hydraulic trailers, mechanical trailers, pullers, axles, rails, etc, we give our clients flexible and smooth logistics networks - just as each of them needs uniquely. Barging services include planning in routes, consolidation of cargo, safety on-load/off-load, heavy transport, door-to-door logistics, long-haul transport, and tracking in real-time to ensure that your cargo is conveyed smoothly and effectively.

List of Our Projects Involving Barging Services

Our team at Prism Logistics has executed numerous successful projects with barging solutions. Here are a few examples:

ODC transport for the largest petrochemical project in India

We helped in transporting 34 SODCs weighing 13000+ MT to the remote Rajasthan site using our barges, which would have been impossible to transport by road due to size and weight restrictions. We covered 900+nautical miles from Hazira to Mundra, 840+nautical miles from Mangalore to Mundra, and 400+nautical miles from Dahej to Mundra. We executed Sideways RO-RO of 2500+ MT SODCs at multiple ports within a single tide of 4 hrs after a Bathymetric survey by marine captains. It was done for berthing in shallow waters at container terminals, overcoming Mediterranean position discharge from Barges. Both our 9000DWT Dongbang 5 and 15000DWT Dongbang 6, and also three 5000DWT flattop barges provided an efficient and safe means to move these oversized items.

Loading of 2 coke chambers for a petrochemical plant

Prism Logistics successfully executed a critical project for a leading oil company in Eastern India. The project involved loading 2 massive coke chambers, each weighing 600+ MT, from a vessel onto a flattop 250-class barge in high-sea conditions. The use of these specialized barges helped us overcome navigation challenges in low-level shallow water and cover 3000+ nautical miles.

Transport of SODCs weighing 2000+ MT for a refinery project

Prism Logistics recently handled the monumental task of transporting 2000+ metric tons of 3 SODC units for an oil refinery project in the northern part of India, leveraging specialized barges to facilitate this complex journey. The project required moving the massive SODC, a challenge met with careful planning. The use of 300-class barges enabled Prism Logistics to overcome the associated shipping challenges, reducing overland transport time and ensuring the cargo reached the site location safely.

Safe and efficient transportation of ODC from India to Spain

Prism Logistics recently completed a third-country logistics project of cosmic proportions, managing the complex transport of a 50+ meter long SODC unit, weighing 200+ MT, for the Spain refinery project. By using specialized 250-class barges to navigate coastal and inland waterways, we ensured the safe and efficient movement of this massive unit across critical sections of the route. Most importantly, these barges helped us overcome the stability challenges of navigating via tight or shallow channels.

Strategic use of 330-class barges to transfer 4000+ MT of cargo in a Middle-East country

Prism Logistics successfully handled the loading of 4000+ MT of 8 cargo units for the JGC Shipment Project in the Middle East, showcasing our expertise in handling large-scale, complex logistics operations. The third country logistics project involved the strategic use of 330-class barges to efficiently transport the massive cargo units from inland storage facilities to the loading port, optimizing time and resources while ensuring safety across all stages.

1000+ MT cargo movement by using specialized 300-class barges for a powerplant project

Prism Logistics has demonstrated its expertise by successfully moving 5 transformers weighing 1000+ MT using specialized 300-class barges for a powerplant project. The strategic use of 300-class barges allowed Prism Logistics to safely reach project sites, which is in a north-eastern part of India, and meet the project’s demanding timelines. We also constructed a jetty along the riverbank to facilitate seamless transportation. However, this project posed several challenges. Adverse weather conditions, including storms, heavy rains, and fog, created significant obstacles during construction. Additionally, we encountered challenges with low water levels in the river during the winter season. To address this, our in-house engineers used their experience handling such challenging projects and came up with complex engineering techniques. Their expertise enabled them to develop and implement effective barging measures, successfully stabilizing the water level to ensure the project's smooth progression.

Third-country venture involving the export of bullet sections

Prism Logistics has showcased its proficiency in managing complex international logistics through a third-country venture involving the export of bullet sections. Utilizing specialized 250-class barges, the company executed a multimodal transport for the project involving the movement of 22 SODCs weighing 100+ MT from India to Bangladesh. By integrating barge transport with other logistics modes, the company ensured seamless and secure transit across national boundaries and inland waterways. Due to cross-border shipment, our expert team also handled custom clearance and port handling activities, and other necessary clauses efficiently and reached the destination on time.

Facilitating the transportation of thermal power plant equipment weighing 400+ MT

Prism Logistics played a pivotal role in the thermal power project in Eastern India by facilitating inland transportation of thermal power plant equipment units that weigh 400+ MT from Hazira port to the Eastern parts of India. The choice of 300-class barge transportation was strategic, enabling the efficient and secure movement of these large and heavy components along inland waterways. This approach minimized logistical challenges, such as road congestion and infrastructure limitations, ensuring timely delivery and maintaining the integrity of the cargo.

Multimodal transportation of a transformer to a remote district in West Bengal

Prism Logistics successfully executed the multimodal transportation of a transformer that is 350+ MT in weight and 12+ meters in length in the southern district of West Bengal. Here, we faced the enormous challenge of passing low-clearance bridges along waterways. The use of barges was a critical component of this operation, providing a secure and efficient method to move the heavy transformer through inland waterways. This solution minimized risks, reduced transit time, and ensured the transformer’s safety during the journey.

Delivery of Pontoon submarine that weighs 2000+ MT

Prism Logistics demonstrated its proficiency in heavy cargo transport by successfully executing the multimodal transportation of a 2000+ MT pontoon submarine. The operation involved the seamless movement of the pontoon from Gujarat to Andhra Pradesh by waterways. This challenging journey began with the transport of the pontoon on 60+ SPMTs from the loading point to the Jetty. From there, the cargo was loaded onto a 5799 DWT barge and mobilized along with two 20 Bollard Pull (BP) tugs to facilitate secure and efficient transit across waterways.
